This video gives students an opportunity to gain experience with the two past tenses in Spanish, the preterit and the imperfect. It is one thing to memorize the rules but another to use the two tenses in speaking and writing. Students need lots of opportunities to internalize their use. This video gives such an opportunity in a lively and entertaining format. Viaje a Oaxaca tells of a student trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Full of scenes of Indian markets and the majestic ruins of Monte Alvan. The story is told the first time with the text on the screen with preterit forms highlighted in yellow and imperfect forms in red. Then the story is told again without the text so students can concentrate on simply listening to the story while watching the video. Includes teaching suggestions with exercises and activities.
