Gringuito: A Teachers Guide is divided into six distinct chapters. Chapter 1 provides a detailed frame-by-frame analysis of each of the 16 scenes in the documentary, including chronologically ordered questions to use as prompts, formative and summative assessment tools, dip-sticking devices, and launching pads to robust classroom discussion. In chapter 2, activities focus on the motivations, dreams, and behaviors of Ivanís family and friends. In chapter 3, all lessons are connected to our orientation to Chile and to the myriad sights, sounds, and experiences that Ivan encounters as he leaves home to initiate his trek. Chapter 4 is replete with writing prompts useful for reflections and discussions about how Ivanís life experiences connect to our own lives and the lives of our students. In chapter 5, is a number quick activities that are appropriate for reviewing key moments from the film, gauging student perceptions, and assessing student understanding. Chapter 6 is an extensive listing of additional resources pertaining to Chile, K-12 education, lesson plans, and some web 2.0 tools that are ideal for student learning.
